Due to concerns around the rapidly evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to modify the 2020 Collegiate Design Series (CDS) Season, originally scheduled for April – June 2020. This includes Formula SAE, Baja SAE, SAE AeroDesign West and SAE Supermileage, and AeroConnect Challenge™.
For this competition season, SAE will transition all non-dynamic event participation to a virtual platform for the purpose of maintaining the significant educational components that participation in SAE Collegiate Design Series events provides. We are targeting these virtual events to take place in 2020 and will provide more information on specific dates and details for each series soon.
In addition to moving and awarding each series non-dynamic participation to the virtual platform, SAE will expand our CDS offerings to include:
A mechanism for students to maintain engagement (and earn university credit when applicable) while adhering to individual university-imposed travel bans of unknown length.
A mechanism for international students to maintain engagement while adhering to country-imposed travel bans of unknown length.
Engagement in CDS Skillshops designed to expand workforce development learnings though direct virtual engagement with competition partners and sponsors.
Expand the current CDS experience to include a Virtual Career Fair specifically designed to help students and partners maintain direct contact for workforce development and meet recruiting/hiring needs.
Delivery of your team’s competition giveaways and DS SolidWorks T-Shirts!
An opportunity for your team to showcase the hard work you have put into your design and presentations by awarding the events from competitions we can modify for virtual participation.
At SAE, even though we are aggressively working to expand the value we can provide on a virtual platform at this unprecedented time, we understand the disappointment of missing out on dynamic participation that this spring brings to our entire community. We want to ease this disappointment by guaranteeing that all currently registered 2020 teams will be granted the opportunity to pre-register their team for the 2021 competition season. More details will follow on that process of 2021 registration, but rest-assured that registration will be one less stress you’ll have later this year as your team prepares for the excitement of the 2021 season.
The Collegiate Design Series has a long history of showcasing student technological innovations in the world of mobility, but the health and safety of our students, faculty, sponsors, volunteers, and staff who are attending our events is of the upmost priority.
We are developing an FAQ by Series for each competition for the details.
Thank you for your cooperation and support during this challenging situation as we modify our 2020 schedule to offer everyone sustainable options for participation.
